Don’s presentation mapped the territory for diverse digital credentials in the context of 21st Century learning, including definitions, taxonomies and frameworks for micro credentials in use within higher education and industry and professional training. It included authentic examples drawn from global practice, not just in higher education but across the spectrum of lifelong learning, including TVET and adult education.

Don led a workshop panel of innovative practitioners that explored examples and case studies from North America, Europe and Africa.
The panel included:
- Gwen Zeldenrust, co-chair of the Micro-credential Strategy at Mohawk College, Canada
- Dominic Orr, adjunct Professor at University of Nova Gorica , and a member of the Management Team at the atingi.org learning platform, GIZ, Germany
- Sarah Peake, Associate Dean, Flexible Learning at Humber College, Canada
- Satu Järvinen, founder and CEO of SkillSafari.io, Finland
The panel focused on non formal and informal sectors, which comprise the bulk of labour in emerging markets. The workshop helped participants understand how these innovators moved their initiatives forward from idea to implementation, and in the process gave recognition to all forms of learning.
